What does CHKS accreditation mean?

CHKS assesses health and care organisations against quality and safety standards. It is a private UK business within the AdvT Group.

Who runs it and is it the government?

CHKS runs external accreditation and quality-assurance reviews. It is separate from government licensing, and the certificate should identify the legal entity responsible for the award. Check that name if the clinic's paperwork uses a different company name from the CHKS brand.

The programmes can cover hospitals, clinical departments and other healthcare services. A department can be the recipient in its own right. Read that description carefully when a hospital presents a departmental award as part of its wider credentials.

CHKS holds organisation-level IEEA recognition for December 2024 to December 2028. If you encounter an older statement that renewal is in progress, consult IEEA's current awards directory for the recipient and dates.

What does it assess and for how long?

The assessment examines health and care standards, organisational quality and safety. Survey arrangements depend on the programme. CHKS also offers ISO certification, either separately or alongside accreditation, so ask whether the certificate records one award or a combined assessment.

Use the dates on the particular certificate to establish its duration. The public recipient list does not expose every expiry date. If the hospital points only to a name on the list, request the award period from CHKS before treating the listing as current.

How do I find a clinic in its register?

Open CHKS's list of accredited organisations and use your browser's Find function for the organisation's name. Read the heading under which it appears: a dual accreditation and ISO award is different from a CHKS-only award.

Check whether the recipient is a whole organisation or a named department. Compare that department with the service you intend to use. Ask CHKS to confirm the programme and validity if the listing leaves either unclear.

What does it not tell me?

A departmental listing does not establish whole-hospital coverage. ISO certification and healthcare accreditation also answer different questions, even when awarded together. Neither a UK brand nor a combined certificate replaces the destination country's legal permissions.
