What does KTQ certification mean in Germany?
Kooperation für Transparenz und Qualität im Gesundheitswesen (KTQ) certifies quality processes in healthcare organisations. KTQ-GmbH is a German limited company, separate from government licensing authorities.
Who runs it and is it the government?
KTQ operates the certification programme. Medical, hospital and nursing bodies appear on its stated advisory board, but advisory participation should not be described as proof of ownership. If ownership matters to your enquiry, request the company's current details directly.
The programmes concern healthcare institutions and their organisational processes. A KTQ certificate is not a doctor's Approbation, the professional authorisation to practise medicine, or a government operating permit for the institution.
What does it assess and for how long?
KTQ uses an external review known as a Visitation. The assessment addresses patient focus, safety, hygiene, staff qualifications, discharge management and other organisation-wide quality processes. KTQ's patient information explains the programme from a patient's perspective.
The review cycle is three years. Check the actual certificate and associated report to understand the award you are considering. A date labelled “certification” is not automatically an expiry date, so ask KTQ to clarify the current term if the record gives only one date.
The inclusion of staff qualifications in an organisational review does not remove the need to verify your own doctor's credentials. Ask for the professional's name and registration details separately from the institution's certificate.
How do I find a clinic in its register?
Open KTQ's directory of certified institutions. Search or browse by institution name, town, country or field, and read the certification date. Open the related report or certificate where available.
Compare the field of certification with the service you plan to use. If the clinic supplies a newer document than the directory shows, ask KTQ which record reflects the current award. Request clarification of any date label before calculating an expiry yourself.
What does it not tell me?
KTQ certification addresses organisational quality processes. It does not establish the doctor's legal authorisation or automatically provide a current expiry date from a single directory date. The Germany doctor-check page explains the separate professional routes.
Use How to check any mark in five minutes for the common checks on the institution's claim.
