What does HCAC accreditation mean?

The Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC) runs accreditation programmes for hospitals and other healthcare services. It is an independent body based in Jordan.

Who runs it and is it the government?

HCAC operates as an independent evaluator. Its name should not be treated as a government operating licence for a hospital. If you need its current legal form or nonprofit status confirmed, ask HCAC for its corporate details.

The programmes include hospitals, primary care, laboratories and other defined services. Ask which programme appears on the certificate, especially when a clinic uses a broad statement such as “HCAC approved”. That wording leaves the actual recipient and assessment unclear.

HCAC holds organisation-level IEEA recognition for January 2023 to January 2027. This is recognition of HCAC itself, not evidence that every provider receiving its training or advice has been accredited. IEEA's awards directory identifies the organisation and award period.

What does it assess and for how long?

HCAC uses programme standards and external surveyors to assess eligible services. The method depends on the programme. Ask for the standards and assessment route that apply to the hospital, laboratory or other service you will use.

Request the certificate's start and expiry dates from HCAC. Do not assume that the evaluator's IEEA period is the hospital's award period. If the clinic describes an assessment visit but supplies no decision or certificate, ask whether an award has actually been issued.

How do I find a clinic in its register?

Open HCAC's accredited-organisations list. Select the programme where that option is available and locate the facility. Ask HCAC to confirm the exact validity period if the listing does not show it clearly.

For a provider outside Jordan, request confirmation of that specific overseas award. Consultancy or training delivered abroad does not establish accreditation of the participating provider. A photograph of a course or visit is therefore a reason to ask what happened next, not a substitute for an award record.

What does it not tell me?

HCAC's international activities and its own external recognition do not establish a particular foreign clinic's status. Keep training, consultancy and awarded accreditation distinct when evaluating the documents you receive.
