What does JACIE accreditation mean for cell therapy?

JACIE accreditation concerns defined activities in haematopoietic cell-therapy programmes. JACIE operates within EBMT, a professional scientific organisation, and works with the separate standards body FACT on FACT-JACIE standards.

Who runs it and is it the government?

The programme operates through professional scientific organisations rather than a government licensing authority. JACIE and FACT have distinct roles, so read the issuer and standards named on the certificate instead of treating every cell-therapy logo as the same award.

The recipient is a centre or programme with a defined scope. That scope can involve clinical care, cell collection or processing. Ask which activities the advertised certificate covers before relating it to the treatment offered to you.

What does it assess and for how long?

JACIE uses standards-based inspection of the programme's covered activities. Its accredited-centres information describes an interim review at year two. That review point should not be used to invent the full certificate term.

Read the actual certificate's start and end dates and the activities included. If the clinic shows a document for collection or processing, ask how that scope relates to the clinical programme responsible for your care. The activity named on the award is essential to interpreting it.

If an interim audit or renewal is mentioned, ask JACIE to confirm the current status. A statement that an assessment is scheduled does not itself establish a completed award.

How do I find a clinic in its register?

On EBMT's JACIE page, use the list of valid accredited centres. Locate the centre and compare its programme scope and certificate dates with the document supplied by the clinic.

Keep centres still in process separate from centres with valid accreditation. An application may explain why a clinic refers to JACIE, but it does not establish that accreditation has been granted. Ask the programme to clarify the status if the clinic's description differs from the list.

What does it not tell me?

Accreditation of a defined cell-therapy programme does not establish approval or effectiveness of every regenerative treatment a clinic advertises. Ask which specific activity on the certificate relates to your proposed treatment, and investigate the treatment claim separately.
