What does national healthcare accreditation mean in Poland?
Poland's Minister of Health awards national healthcare accreditation following a formal assessment process. The Centrum Monitorowania Jakości w Ochronie Zdrowia (CMJ) conducts the accreditation review.
Who runs it and is it the government?
This is a government accreditation system. CMJ carries out the assessment, the Accreditation Council makes a recommendation and the minister issues the decision. Those stages should not be collapsed into a general claim that a hospital has applied or been visited.
Eligible hospitals and primary-care services can be assessed under the applicable standards. Ask the provider which decision confirms its award and what declared activity that decision covers. A provider's participation in the process is different from the minister granting accreditation.
What does it assess and for how long?
The assessment covers clinical, management and administrative standards across the declared activity. The current framework under the 2023 quality and patient-safety law gives accreditation a four-year period.
Older descriptions of a three-year term should not be used as the current general rule. Read the actual ministerial decision and award dates when checking a provider. If its website repeats the old duration, ask it to identify the current decision rather than trying to reconcile the claim from advertising alone.
CMJ also provides assessment information. If its site is unavailable, use the ministry's page to check the published decisions and ask about any unresolved detail. CMJ's website provides the assessment body's own information.
How do I find a clinic in its register?
Open the ministry's accreditation page and review its lists of granted, refused and withdrawn awards. Search for the provider's legal entity, then inspect the decision dates and scope.
Read the category of the decision carefully. A hospital name appearing on a page about accreditation is not enough: the page can also contain refusals or withdrawals. If the clinic gives a trading name, request the legal name used in the decision so you can compare the correct record.
What does it not tell me?
A previous award does not settle current status if a later decision changes it. Accreditation also does not establish an individual doctor's licence or specialty. Use the Poland doctor-check page for the professional enquiry.
