What does Thailand's HA accreditation mean?
Thailand's Healthcare Accreditation Institute (HAI) runs healthcare accreditation programmes under HA standards. HAI is a public organisation established by royal decree.
Who runs it and is it the government?
HAI is a public body, rather than a private international accreditation company. Its programmes cover hospitals and other eligible healthcare services. The programme and development level identify what kind of assessment the provider has achieved.
If a hospital uses the phrase “HA recognised”, ask for the exact certificate or level. Development and certification stages should retain their own names. A broad label can hide the difference between progress towards an award and the particular status actually granted.
What does it assess and for how long?
HAI combines self-evaluation with external quality evaluation. The assessment addresses healthcare-service quality and safety under the relevant standards. Ask which programme and level cover the hospital's claim before interpreting its certificate.
Use the individual hospital's certificate status and history to establish validity. Do not substitute the dates of HAI's own recognition or the recognition of its standards for the hospital's award period.
HAI has organisation-level IEEA recognition for 2025–2029. Its sixth-edition HA standards have recognition for January 2026 to January 2030. These are different subjects of evaluation with different dates. IEEA's awards directory identifies the categories, while HAI publishes information about its standards recognition.
How do I find a clinic in its register?
Open HAI's hospital certificate-status search. Use the certified-facility search and hospital filters to locate the provider. Read the certificate status and history rather than stopping at the organisation's name.
Compare the level and programme with the wording in the hospital's advertising. If the result describes a different stage, ask HAI or the hospital to explain the distinction. Request confirmation where the history does not clearly settle whether the advertised status remains current.
What does it not tell me?
HA accreditation does not license individual doctors. Different development or certification levels are not interchangeable, and recognition of the standards does not establish a hospital's award. Use the Thailand doctor-check page for the professional enquiry.
