How do I check a doctor in the Dominican Republic?

The Dominican Republic authorises professional practice through an exequátur granted by decree, with processes involving the health and higher-education ministries. The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) provides a public exequátur consultation route for patients.

How do I look up a doctor?

Ask for the doctor's full legal name and exequátur details. Open MSP's Consulta de Exequátur and use the information requested by the Spanish-language service. Compare the professional and authorisation details with those supplied by the doctor.

The government describes online consultation and verifiable certificates. If the consultation does not load or the certificate is unclear, ask MSP to confirm the authorisation directly. A receipt showing that an application is being processed should not be treated as the resulting decree. The government's explanation of the consultation service describes its purpose.

How do I check a specialist or a dentist?

Dentists also require the applicable exequátur. Check the profession named in the authorisation rather than relying only on the person's name.

For a specialist, request the exact specialty title and evidence of recognition. Ask MSP which current official route verifies that specialty. The exequátur establishes professional authorisation, but it should not automatically be read as current recognition of every specialty advertised by the clinic.

If a specialist title is not visible in the consultation result, ask the ministry to identify the appropriate authority. Do not interpret the missing field as proof either that the title is recognised or that specialist regulation does not exist.

Does the register show disciplinary action?

Ask MSP about current suspension, restrictions and the disciplinary information it can provide. An exequátur record or decree is not a complete disciplinary clearance. A result that does not display a restriction still needs clarification if current professional standing is material to your decision.

What about doctors trained abroad?

Foreign qualifications require the applicable revalidation and exequátur process. Official requirements include foreign applicants. Ask for the local authorisation and, for a specialty, confirmation of the recognition requirements that apply to the particular title. MESCyT's exequátur application information explains the official route.

What do US, Canadian or UK titles mean here?

Overseas letters or certificates do not establish local specialist status or replace the exequátur; use the foreign-credentials guide to check those claims separately.
