How do I check a doctor in Mexico?

Mexico's Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP), through its Dirección General de Profesiones, registers professional qualifications and issues the corresponding cédula. Patients can use the public professional register, then check medical specialty certification separately through CONACEM and the recognised specialty councils.

How do I look up a doctor?

Ask for the doctor's full legal name and cédula number. Open Mexico's Registro Nacional de Profesionistas and use the available name or cédula fields. The Spanish-language record identifies the registered qualification and professional number.

Match the qualification as well as the name. A basic medical degree and a separately registered specialty diploma are different entries. If the form does not load or the details do not match, request confirmation from SEP rather than treating the problem as a clear result.

How do I check a specialist or a dentist?

For a medical specialist, check both the SEP specialty registration and current council certification. Use CONACEM's specialist search, enter the doctor's name or select the relevant council, and compare the specialty and certification status. CONACEM's FAQ describes a five-year certification period.

For a dentist, use the SEP register to match the dental qualification and any separately registered postgraduate title. A dental degree alone does not verify a claimed specialty. Ask which recognised qualification supports an “implantologist” description; do not assume CONACEM's medical-council search covers every dental course or marketing title.

Does the register show disciplinary action?

Do not treat a degree entry as a complete disciplinary clearance. Ask SEP or the relevant professional authority what current restrictions and disciplinary information it can confirm. A record of a qualification does not answer every question about permission or conduct today.

What about doctors trained abroad?

Foreign qualifications need the applicable recognition or revalidation and SEP registration. The official specialty-registration route also covers foreign studies. Medical council certification has its own requirements, so ask for evidence of both processes where relevant. SEP's specialty-registration information explains the qualification route.

What do US, Canadian or UK titles mean here?

A foreign board certificate or Fellowship needs its own issuer check and does not itself authorise practice in Mexico; see how to verify foreign credentials.
