Travelling to San José for treatment

For visas, payment arrangements and medical documents, start with Travelling to Costa Rica for treatment. This page covers arrival, clinic locations and the local route for raising concerns in San José.

How do I get there?

Consult Juan Santamaría International Airport for airport information. Send your provider the exact flight and appointment address before agreeing a transfer.

This page covers San José and appointments in Escazú and Santa Ana. Ask the clinic to state the canton and district, plus the building name, in its arrival instructions. Request a meeting point and a contact number for a delayed flight. Confirm any separate transfer between the consultation site, hospital and subsequent review location.

Where are the clinics?

DaVinci’s Dental Care lists Plaza Mayor, third floor, suites 10–11, on Ernesto Rohrmoser Boulevard in San José. Goodness Dental lists Habitat Empresarial Escazú, third floor, Escazú.

Hospital Clínica Bíblica’s Santa Ana branch lists Pozos on National Route 310, Santa Ana. Ask which branch and department appear on your appointment; the name of a hospital group does not identify a single arrival point.

Confirm where each test and procedure is scheduled, and request the relevant entrance and contact details. If transport is arranged, check whether all the named sites are included.

Who can I complain to locally?

The Health Ministry’s office map lists local health-area offices, including Escazú and Santa Ana. Its sanitary-complaint guidance covers the operation of establishments, including health services, and describes in-person, telephone, email and website routes.

Ask which health-area office covers the treatment address. Confirm whether your issue requires a sanitary complaint or another patient-service route, and whether supporting documents need Spanish translation. Retain the submission reference for follow-up from abroad.

For national bodies and licence-checking information, see Travelling to Costa Rica for treatment.

What should I know about the place?

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute’s health-tourism decree recognises a medical-and-wellbeing congress in San José as part of developing the sector. Ask the selected provider which services it offers visiting patients; the decree is not a clinic endorsement.
