What does Mexico's CSG certification mean?
Mexico's Consejo de Salubridad General (CSG) runs a government certification scheme for healthcare establishments. Its current model, CSG's MOCEBPASS, addresses standardised good practice in healthcare quality and safety.
Who runs it and is it the government?
CSG and its healthcare-establishment certification commission operate the scheme as government bodies. This is a different ownership arrangement from private international accreditation organisations.
The model applies to healthcare establishments under the relevant manuals. Ask which facility category and manual apply to the certificate you are shown. A broad claim of government recognition should identify this certification rather than leave you to guess which permission or award the clinic means.
The MOCEBPASS agreement dates from 25 September 2025. If a hospital's material uses the older MUEC terminology, ask it to explain the certificate's present status and how the transition applies to that award. The official agreement sets out the newer model.
What does it assess and for how long?
Certification involves documentary and facility evaluation under the current model and the applicable manual. The focus is the establishment's quality and safety practices. The hospital manual provides the hospital-specific framework.
Check the expiry on the current certificate or official list. Facility category and transition arrangements matter, so a single assumed validity period can be misleading. Ask CSG to clarify an old certificate, a renewal claim or a mismatch between the document and the current model.
How do I find a clinic in its register?
Open CSG's list of healthcare establishments and select the list of current certificates. Search for the facility's legal name, then compare its location, validity and model with the certificate supplied by the hospital.
Read the list's date as well as the individual certificate's date. If you cannot access the detailed list or the hospital is described differently, ask CSG to confirm the exact establishment. A familiar trading name alone may leave the identity question unresolved.
What does it not tell me?
CSG certification is separate from the facility's ordinary sanitary operating permission. It also does not license the doctor who will treat you. Check that professional's registration through the Mexico doctor-check page.
Use How to check any mark in five minutes for the common award checks.
