What does Spain's REGCESS register tell me?
REGCESS is Spain's government register of authorised health centres, services and establishments. The Ministry of Health consolidates information supplied by the autonomous communities.
Who runs it and is it the government?
The autonomous communities handle authorisation and registration, while the ministry brings the records together nationally. A REGCESS entry is therefore part of the official operating-authorisation system.
It is not a voluntary quality-accreditation award or a ranking of clinics. If a provider presents its register entry beside an accreditation logo, read them as separate credentials. One concerns authorised operation, while the other must be checked with the organisation that issued it.
What does it assess and for how long?
REGCESS records authorised establishments and services, including an identifying code and service details. The national register consolidates regional authorisations rather than issuing a fixed-term quality award of its own.
The relevant permission is licence-specific. Read the establishment's details and ask the responsible authority about any uncertainty over current authorisation. A continuously updated register should not be described as an accreditation certificate with a standard award cycle.
The service description matters for your booking. Ask the clinic to identify the authorised service covering the procedure it proposes. A centre's existence in the register does not, by itself, explain every treatment mentioned in its advertising.
How do I find a clinic in its register?
Open the centre-search function from REGCESS. Use the clinic's name, location or centre code to find the entry. If the clinic's brand differs from the legal name, request the name and code used in the official record.
Read the authorised services and compare them with your treatment plan. If the description is unclear, ask the clinic and the authorising authority to explain it. Keep the centre's identifying code with that enquiry so the reply addresses the correct establishment.
For hospital context, the Ministry of Health's hospital information is a separate resource. Do not substitute a general hospital listing for the specific authorisation details you need.
What does it not tell me?
REGCESS does not rank care quality or establish an individual doctor's specialist credentials. Use the Spain doctor-check page to check the professional separately.
Follow How to check any mark in five minutes when assessing other certificates shown alongside the entry.
